What
is a hybrid vehicle?
We can say that hybrid
vehicles will be the cars in the near future.
A hybrid vehicle combines two
engines to get around,
a traditional
engine, located at the front of the vehicle and which is fed with gasoline
or diesel and an electric engine, which is attached to the
conventional engine, this is fed with electricity, electricity which
is obtained from the batteries which are at the rear of the vehicle.
Currently, the most
important and prestigious car manufacturers such as Toyota or
Lexus, are working really hard to develop this last-minute technology.

Why do we want them?
Hybrid vehicles, by their
very nature, have lower fuel consumption and therefore lower emissions,
reducing considerably the production of noxious gases such as the CO2, Nitrous
oxides and greenhouse gases, especially in city driving, where the average
speed is low.
These vehicles
also significantly reduce the noise as they are driven on the road.
All this will result in the
near future's improvement of the quality of the air we breathe as well as lower
levels of noise pollution, especially in town centres.

How do they work?
The conventional engine
has two functions: producing the electricity needed to charge the vehicle
batteries and cooperating, giving power to the electric engine when
required.
The electric engine also
has two functions: transforming the electricity from the batteries, moving the
vehicle and generating electricity using the energy from braking.
The vehicle moves at low
speeds when running on electricity stored in the batteries, and when you need
more power the traditional engine comes into play.
The two engines are connected
to a mechanical device that powers both energies and transfers it to the
wheels.

The future of the hybrid
vehicle.
We know that electric cars are less polluting, but
this new generation of cars has two disadvantages: The toxicity of the
batteries and the use of rare elements such as neodymium.
The present tendency of car manufacturers is making vehicles
more comfortable and economic for people.
In these new vehicles, called plug-in, the electric
charge of the batteries is achieved simply by plugging them into the outlets of
your home and the electricity costs for all-electric operations have been
estimated at less than one quarter of the cost of gasoline.
